Why do I need to drink after a massage?

July 12, 2026 by Katie Clarke

  1. Mainly, to prevent “detox headaches” and extra muscle soreness.
  2. Because of the metabolic waste products that were flushed out of your tissues during massage, back into circulation. Drinking extra water helps your kidneys, liver, lungs and your bowel to process these unwanted items out of your body.
  3. If someone does NOT drink extra water after a massage, once in a while they will suffer from a slight headache, or have a more achy body than if they had some extra water.
  4. We also recommend having a good steam or sweat after a massage, along with the extra water to help your body eliminate the toxins, through the sweat.
