Can I have a massage with oil, lotion or NO oil or lotion?

July 12, 2026 by Katie Clarke

  1. Yes, I use a top quality, unscented massage lotion that is nut free. I also have organic avocado oil available, or, I can give you a Shiatsu style massage using no oil or lotion at all.
  2. What’s the difference? When a massage uses oil or lotion, then the therapist’s hands or forearms “glide” across the skin. This is great for relaxation and for the long strokes of Deep Tissue. The oil or lotion is great for your skin, especially if your skin is dry skin. It can make it feel softer, more supple and hydrated.
  3. Not using oil, say in a Shiatsu massage, we can perform many of the same motions or techniques, but we cannot “glide” across the skin, Instead we apply pressure in more of a pulsing manner, through your loose, comfy clothing. Or pressing in and out slowly, with your breathing to achieve much the same effect as the oil massage.
